Tears of Metal: Scotland’s Answer to the Horde

Steel, sorcery, and Scottish fury collide in Tears of Metal, the latest action roguelike from Paper Cult. Released into Early Access in July 2026, the game throws players onto a war-torn island where an invading force is harvesting the mysterious power of the Mother Dragon Stone.

The solution? Rally your battalion and cut through armies of enemies.

Playable solo or with up to four-player online co-op, Tears of Metal blends fast-paced hack-and-slash combat with roguelike progression. Every campaign offers new upgrade combinations, while more than 100 artifacts allow players to experiment with increasingly devastating builds.

But you're not fighting alone. Soldiers can gain permanent skills between campaigns, while your settlement can be expanded to unlock upgrades, shops, challenges, and new ways to strengthen your forces.

With more than 45 handcrafted environments, multiple heroes, and plenty of replayability, Tears of Metal is shaping up as a particularly energetic take on the medieval roguelike formula.

And if the reviews are anything to go by, players are already charging into battle—the game currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam.
