Nordic Lake: Build, Balance and Bring Your Own Lake to Life

What does it take to build a healthy lake?

In Nordic Lake, the answer is entirely up to you. This upcoming ecosystem simulator puts players in charge of developing their own living Nordic lake, starting from the lakebed and gradually transforming it into a thriving world.

You'll choose the plants, fish, and invertebrates that call the lake home—but adding more life comes with responsibility. Balance the food chain, understand how each species interacts, and make sure your growing ecosystem remains habitable for every resident.

The game will feature more than a dozen unique creatures to unlock, along with a codex filled with information about the plants and wildlife you discover. Want a perfectly balanced, self-sustaining ecosystem? Go for it. Want to build an unstoppable perch army? That's apparently an option too.

As the lake expands, players can earn passive income, complete natural progression goals, unlock new species, and take wildlife photos for extra cash. It's a relaxed concept with a surprising amount of ecological experimentation beneath the surface.

What's even more interesting is the team behind it. Nordic Lake is the first game from Tired Oak Games, created by a solo developer with art support from his brother.

The game is currently planned for an early 2027 release, with a demo expected to arrive during a future Steam Next Fest.

For a first project, Nordic Lake is already shaping up to be a refreshingly different kind of simulation game—less about conquering nature and more about learning how to live with it.

Your lake. Your creatures. Your ecosystem.
